Matthew Schmidt - Owner Bio

Matthew has a formal education in Violinmaking from the world renowned Mittenwald Violinmaking School in Bavaria, Germany. This 3.5 year full-time program included traditional training in building, varnishing, setting-up, repairing, identification and history of violin-family instruments. Matthew's patient, meticulous nature and artistic sensibilities complement this education, and his instruments have been praised by many experts. More about Matthew's new instrument making can be found in the Instrument Gallery.

Upon graduating with his Journeyman's Certificate he accepted a position in the Toronto workshop of Geo. Heinl & Company Ltd. – Canada's oldest and most respected provider of stringed instruments, expertise and repair services. While at Heinl Matthew was responsible for maintenance, repairs, and high-level restorations of many valuable instruments. Click HERE to view a Toronto Star Video featuring Matthew at Geo. Matthew is not only a talented expert in his field; he is a husband and father, as well as someone with strong principles who believes in honesty, integrity, reliability and respect for others. He is happy to have returned to the city in which he grew up, and looks forward to the opportunity to help London Area string players and to be involved in supporting the arts community as a whole.
